Tort reform is the brainchild of the insurance industry. They pass laws placing caps on lawsuit damages claiming that these laws are needed to keep insurance costs down, prevent job loss, etc.
These laws benefit insurance companies and harm consumers as the article indicates. Keep this article in mind any time you are voting on a law regarding lawsuit damages. In my opinion, the focus should always be “people over profits.” However, many state legislatures across the country have enacted laws that put “profits over people.”
